COBI Maserati GranCabrio Trofeo Set 24578
COBI's Maserati GranCabrio Trofeo is a 1:35 model built from 105 blocks, 14.5 cm long, produced under an official license from Maserati and finished in the car's signature red. The wheels turn on rubber tires, and the markings are printed onto the blocks rather than applied as stickers.
Heavier, and better balanced for it
Cutting the roof off a coupe usually costs something. The GranCabrio carries about 100 kg more than the GranTurismo it is based on, which takes a tenth off the sprint to 100 km/h โ 3.6 seconds instead of 3.5 โ and trims the top speed to 316 km/h.
The odd part is what the extra mass did to the balance. The coupe sits 52/48 front to rear. The convertible, with the folding roof and its mechanism stowed behind the cabin, sits 51/49 โ closer to even than the car it came from. The penalty landed exactly where a chassis engineer would have wanted it.
Maserati chose fabric over a folding hard top to save space, and it still costs some: with the roof down the boot shrinks from 172 to 131 liters. The top opens in 14 seconds, closes in 16, and works at up to 50 km/h โ so a change of weather does not mean stopping.
In the COBI range
Set 24577 is the same car with a fixed roof, in blue. Set 24504 is the earlier GranCabrio, 24561 the previous-generation GranTurismo and 24567 the GranTurismo GT3 Racing. Set 24568 is the Maserati Garage to park them in.
