COBI's Lancia Delta HF Integrale is a 1:12 model built from 2,068 blocks under original licence from Lancia, 33 cm long. The doors open, the bonnet hinges up, the steering turns the front wheels, and the interior is reproduced in printed blocks.

Six championships in a row

COBI's own listing calls the sporting record hard to ignore and then ignores it, so here it is: the Delta won the World Rally Championship for manufacturers six consecutive times, from 1987 to 1992. No other car has done it, and nothing since has come close.

What made that possible was the rule change after Group B was banned in 1986. The new Group A class required cars derived from ordinary production models sold in the thousands โ€” and Lancia already had a practical five-door family hatchback with four-wheel drive and a turbocharged engine sitting in its showrooms. Everyone else had to build something. Lancia only had to develop what it had.

The Integrale of 1987 is where the road car caught up with the rally car: permanent four-wheel drive, a torque-sensing centre differential, wider track, blistered arches to cover it. The shape underneath is Giorgetto Giugiaro's original 1979 Delta, a clean three-box hatchback that had won European Car of the Year before anyone thought of racing it.
