COBI Jeep Willys CJ-2A White Set 24518

COBI's Jeep Willys CJ-2A in white is a 1:35 model built from 111 blocks under licence, 10 cm long, with rotating wheels and parts made specifically for the Willys grille and window frame. The body is white with red wheels, and it is sized to take COBI minifigures.

The shape that never changed

Look at the front of this model and then at a Jeep in a car park today. The seven vertical slots in the grille, the round headlights set inside them, the flat bonnet and the squared-off wings are all here, on a vehicle from 1945.

Very few designs survive eighty years without being redrawn. This one did because the proportions were dictated by engineering rather than taste — a short wheelbase for ground clearance, a flat bonnet so the driver could see the ground, headlights tucked behind the grille so they would not be torn off. Nothing about it was styled, which is precisely why nothing about it went out of style.

The CJ-2A was the first Jeep sold to the public, in 1945, after the war models went to the army. It was aimed at farmers as a working machine rather than at families as a car.
