COBI Jeep Willys CJ-2A Green Set 24517

COBI's Jeep Willys CJ-2A in green is a 1:35 model built from 111 blocks under licence, 10 cm long, with rotating wheels and parts made specifically for the Willys grille and window frame. The body is green with yellow wheels, and it is sized to take COBI minifigures.

CJ stands for Civilian Jeep

Willys-Overland had spent the war building a small four-wheel-drive vehicle for the army. In 1945 it did something no manufacturer had done before: it sold one to the public.

The CJ-2A was not marketed as a car. It was sold to farmers as a machine — advertisements showed it pulling a plough and running a belt-driven saw, and the options list included a power take-off, a hydraulic lift and a governor. Willys was pitching it as a cheaper, more flexible tractor that could also drive you into town afterwards.

That worked, and it created the civilian four-wheel-drive market from nothing. The proportions set here — flat bonnet, seven-slot grille, round headlights set close together, squared wings — are still recognisable on a Jeep sold today.
