COBI Jagdpanzer 38(t) Chwat (Brave) Set 2670

COBI's Jagdpanzer 38(t) "Chwat" is a 1:28 model built from 731 blocks, 22 cm long, with working tracks, an MG 34 on the roof, a removable armour section giving access to the engine and crew compartment, and a choice of insurgent or German markings. A Warsaw Uprising soldier figure is included, along with a plaque reproducing the poster "Do broni, w szeregach AK!" and a collector's nameplate.

Captured, repaired, and then scrapped by Poland

On 2 August 1944, during the fighting for the Main Post Office in Warsaw, insurgents disabled a Jagdpanzer 38(t) belonging to the German 743rd Anti-Tank Battalion. It was too damaged to drive, so they built it into a barricade.

Then they repaired it. Men with no manuals and no spare parts got a German tank destroyer running in the middle of a besieged city, named it Chwat — roughly, a bold fellow — and painted it with insurgent markings. It never fired a shot in the uprising, and that was not the point. Photographs of it went around fighting Warsaw as proof that the occupier's equipment could be taken and used.

It survived the war and went to the Polish Army Museum in Warsaw. In 1950 the communist authorities ordered it scrapped, because a monument to the Home Army was not something the new government wished to display. It no longer exists.
