COBI HNoMS Uredd (P-41) U-Class Submarine Set 4861
COBI's HNoMS Uredd (P-41) is a 1:300 model built from 142 blocks, 19.5 cm long, with movable control surfaces and propellers, a display base and a collector's plaque. All markings are printed.
Fearless
Uredd means fearless in Norwegian. The boat was laid down at Vickers-Armstrong as HMS P41 for the Royal Navy and handed to the exiled Norwegian navy before completion β one of a number of British-built ships crewed by men who had escaped an occupied country and had no navy left to go back to.
She commissioned in December 1941 and made seven patrols off occupied Norway.
Operation Seagull
In February 1943 she sailed to land a party of commandos of the Norwegian Independent Company 1 β the Linge Company β near BodΓΈ, to attack an iron ore facility and support the resistance.
She never arrived. On 10 February she ran into a German minefield off FuglΓΈya. All 34 crew and the six commandos aboard were killed. The wreck was not found until 1985, and the site is now a Norwegian war grave.
The Linge Company is worth knowing about on its own: a British-trained Norwegian special forces unit, it carried out the sabotage of the heavy water plant at Vemork β the operation that ended the German nuclear programme's supply of heavy water.
