COBI HMS Victory - Limited Edition Set 20095 (Damaged Box)

COBI's HMS Victory Limited Edition is a 1:144 set built from 2,607 blocks and contains two models: the ship at 60.5 cm long and 43.5 cm high with fabric sails and rigging, and a 27 cm model of Nelson's Column. Two Admiral Nelson figures, a display stand, a collector's plaque and a certificate handwritten by COBI's chief executive are included. Licensed by the National Museum of the Royal Navy.

Condition

This set is sold at a reduced price because the outer box is damaged — it may have holes, creases or crushed corners. The contents are brand new, sealed and complete. Note that on a numbered limited edition the box is part of what collectors value, so this is worth weighing if you are buying to keep sealed rather than to build.

The column is made of French cannons

Nelson's Column was designed in 1838 and stands 51.6 metres high in Trafalgar Square. Four bronze bas-reliefs around the pedestal depict Nelson's greatest actions, and the bronze was cast from captured French cannons, melted down for the purpose. The monument to the battle is physically made from the enemy's guns.

The ship is still in commission

HMS Victory was launched in 1765 and is in dry dock at Portsmouth today — the oldest commissioned warship in the world still in service, formally the flagship of the First Sea Lord.

At Trafalgar on 21 October 1805 she carried Nelson into a battle that ended French and Spanish naval power. Nelson was shot by a marksman from the French ship Redoutable and died below decks three hours later, after being told the battle was won.
