COBI Hawker Hurricane (No.302 Sqn.RAF) Set 5762
COBI's Hawker Hurricane (No. 302 Sqn. RAF) is a 1:32 model built from 375 blocks, 29.5 cm long with a 38.5 cm wingspan. The propeller and ailerons move, the landing gear retracts, and the cockpit opens for a pilot figure in full uniform with two interchangeable headpieces. A display stand with a commemorative plaque is included.
302 Squadron
The markings belong to 302 Squadron, City of Poznań — the first Polish fighter squadron formed in Britain, which went into action from RAF Duxford in the last weeks of the Battle of Britain.
Its pilots had already lost two air forces. They had fought the Luftwaffe over Poland in September 1939 with obsolete aircraft, made their way out through Romania and Hungary to France, fought there in the spring of 1940, and been evacuated again when France fell. By the time they reached England most of them had more combat experience than the RAF pilots training them.
The aircraft in this set flies
COBI produced this model for a specific event. In August 2025, marking the 85th anniversary of the Battle of Britain and the centenary of the Polish Air Force Academy at Dęblin, a preserved airworthy Hurricane painted in 302 Squadron markings flew from Duxford to Dęblin.
That particular aeroplane was built at Canadian Car and Foundry in 1942, served with 123 Squadron of the Royal Canadian Air Force, survived the war, and was restored to flying condition in the 1980s. It is the aircraft this model depicts.
In the COBI range
Set 5728 is the Hurricane Mk. I in the markings of Josef František of 303 Squadron, at the same scale.
