COBI Flying Bulls P-51D Mustang 1:48 Set 26631

COBI's Flying Bulls P-51D Mustang is a 1:48 model of the Mustang flown by the Flying Bulls, Red Bull's collection of historic aircraft in Salzburg, built from 157 blocks under license from Red Bull and Boeing.

A fighter that waited for its war

The real aircraft, serial number 44-74427, was completed at the very end of the Second World War and never reached a front. Like thousands of fighters that were suddenly surplus, it went into storage at a U.S. production depot and stayed there.

It was only in 1950 that it was taken out again, for the Royal Canadian Air Force, which put it into service as a fighter at a time when everyone could already see that jets would decide the future of air forces. After its military years it passed into private hands, flew on the European air-show circuit for around two decades, and was bought by the Flying Bulls in 2021 — the first Mustang in a collection that had long been missing one.
