COBI Fiat Abarth 595 Competizione Set 24601

COBI's Fiat Abarth 595 Competizione is a 1:35 model built from 71 blocks under licence, 10 cm long, with rotating wheels on tires and a block carrying the printed model name.

The same badge, fifty years apart

This is not the 1960s Abarth. It is the modern one: Fiat brought the 500 back in 2007 as a retro-styled small car, and revived the Abarth name with it — not as a tuning house this time but as a sub-brand, with its own dealers and its own model range.

The Competizione is the top version, and the equipment list is a deliberate echo of what Carlo Abarth used to sell by mail order: Koni suspension, Brembo brakes, a Record Monza exhaust that changes note under load, and Sabelt seats. The engine is a 1.4-litre turbo of around 180 hp in a car weighing barely a tonne.

The scorpion on the badge is the same one, and it is still there for the same reason: it was Carlo Abarth's star sign.
