COBI F-35A Lightning II 1:300 Set 5940

COBI's F-35A Lightning II is a 1:300 display model built from 46 blocks under an official licence from Lockheed Martin, supplied with a stand carrying the aircraft name and a transparent support that holds the model as if in flight.

At around 7 cm it is a desk or shelf piece rather than a building project.

The conventional Lightning II

The A is the land-based version of the F-35 and the one built in by far the greatest numbers. Unlike the B it takes off from a runway, which lets it carry more fuel and gives it the internal cannon the other two variants do without.

Its defining feature is not speed but what it can see: sensors distributed around the airframe feed a single picture to the pilot's helmet, which can display the view through the aircraft's own structure.

In the COBI range

1:300 is the scale COBI uses for its ships, so this model is sized to sit alongside them rather than beside the larger 1:48 and 1:32 aircraft — including the Top Gun aircraft carrier, set 5922. Set 5926 is the same aircraft in the markings of the Polish Air Force, and 5927 the short-takeoff F-35B.
