COBI F-16D Fighting Falcon 1:300 Set 5941

COBI's F-16D Fighting Falcon is a 1:300 display model built from 54 blocks, supplied with a stand carrying the aircraft name and a transparent support that holds the model as if in flight.

At around 7 cm it is a desk or shelf piece rather than a building project.

The two-seat Falcon

The D is the two-seat F-16. It was built for conversion training, so that a pilot moving onto the type could fly it with an instructor behind him, but the second seat turned out to be useful for far more than that: several air forces fly the D operationally, with the back-seater running sensors and weapons on missions a single pilot would struggle to manage alone. The extra cockpit costs internal fuel, which is why some versions carry a distinctive spine fairing behind the canopy.

1:300 is the scale COBI uses for its ships, so this model is sized to sit alongside them rather than beside the larger 1:48 and 1:32 aircraft — including the Top Gun aircraft carrier, set 5922. Set 5929 is the single-seat F-16C.
