COBI
COBI F-16C Fighting Falcon POLAND Set 5814
COBI's F-16C Fighting Falcon Poland is built from 415 blocks in Polish Air Force colours with printed chequerboards, under Lockheed Martin licence. The cockpit is made using two-colour injection โ a technique new to COBI at the time โ and takes a pilot figure with helmet and oxygen mask. A brick display stand with a nameplate is included. All markings are printed; no stickers.
Read the scale before you buy this one
This model is 1:35, not the 1:48 COBI uses for almost all its other aircraft. That is unusual and it has consequences worth knowing about.
At 1:35 the aircraft is larger than COBI's other F-16s and will not stand correctly beside them โ next to the 1:48 sets it looks out of place. What it does match is the 1:35 armour and the 1:35 figures, which is a great deal of the Historical Collection and the Armed Forces range.
So the choice is straightforward. If you are building a shelf of aircraft, the 1:48 F-16s are the ones that belong together. If you are building a scene with vehicles and people in it โ an airbase, a flight line with figures walking around it โ this is the only F-16 at the right size.
Poland's F-16s
The first aircraft were delivered on 8 November 2006 after the 2003 purchase of 48 machines, the largest arms contract in Polish history at the time. They remain the backbone of Polish combat aviation and fly air policing, strike and reconnaissance.
In the COBI range
Set 5910 is the Polish F-16C at 1:48 with the corrected armament, and 5914 the two-seat F-16D. Sets 5893, 5896 and 5913 are the European F-16AM in Ukrainian, Dutch and Norwegian colours.
