COBI F-16AM Fighting Falcon Set 5893

COBI's F-16AM Fighting Falcon is a 1:48 model built from 500 blocks, 31 cm long, produced under licence from Lockheed Martin in Ukrainian Air Force colours. Two Storm Shadow cruise missiles, AIM-9 Sidewinders and AIM-120 AMRAAMs are included, all detachable and interchangeable with other sets in the Armed Forces range. A Ukrainian pilot figure with helmet and oxygen mask, a display stand and a nameplate complete the set.

Why Europe had F-16s to give away

Belgium, Denmark, the Netherlands and Norway agreed in 1975 to buy the F-16 together, and they did not simply buy it. As a condition of the deal, production lines were established in Belgium and the Netherlands, and European factories built aircraft and components for the whole programme — an offset arrangement that spread the industrial work in exchange for the order.

That is why four small European countries ended up with large F-16 fleets and the infrastructure to maintain them. The AM designation marks the Mid-Life Update those aircraft received in the 1990s, bringing their radar, cockpit and weapons up to the standard of much later production.

When the same four countries decided in 2023 to transfer aircraft to Ukraine, it was these airframes — European-built, updated, and being replaced by F-35s — that were available.
