COBI F-14A Tomcat 1:300 Set 5923
COBI's F-14A Tomcat at 1:300 is built from 55 blocks, 8 cm long, under the official Top Gun licence. It comes on a black display stand with the film logo and a data plate, mounted on a transparent support so the aircraft appears to be in flight.
What 1:300 is for
This is not a smaller version of COBI's big Tomcats. It is a different kind of object: a desk piece that builds in a few minutes and takes up almost no shelf.
The scale is also the one COBI uses for its warships. At 1:300 this aircraft is sized correctly against the Top Gun aircraft carrier (set 5922) and against the 1:300 battleships and submarines in the range — which is why a model this small exists at all. Put it next to a 1:48 Tomcat and it looks like a toy; put it on a carrier deck and it is right.
The aircraft
The F-14 entered US Navy service in 1972 and retired in 2006, and its swing wings and twin tails are among the most recognisable shapes in aviation. It is the aircraft Maverick and Goose flew in the 1986 film.
In the COBI range
Set 5924 is the MiG-28 at the same scale — the pair are designed to be displayed together. Set 5925 is the brick Top Gun logo, and 5922 the carrier.
