COBI Easter Chick Set 20016

COBI's Easter Chick is built from 82 blocks into a chick emerging from its shell, 7 cm across. Instructions are picture-based, and the set is fully compatible with other brick brands.

A chick in a broken shell is harder than it looks

The interesting thing about this set is the shell. Bricks are rectangular and stack in straight lines; an eggshell is curved, and a cracked one has a jagged edge that goes in and out.

Getting that shape out of standard parts is the whole design problem, and it is solved with stepped and angled pieces rather than curved ones — which is why the model reads as a cracked shell from a short distance and as a staircase up close. Anyone who builds with bricks will recognise the technique, and at 82 pieces it is a small lesson in how curves are faked.

Otherwise it is what it appears to be: a quick seasonal build, twenty to thirty minutes, no play function, designed to be made at a table with a child at Easter and then put on a shelf.
