COBI's Dodge WC-56 Command Car is a 1:35 model built from 208 blocks, 12.5 cm long, produced under RAM licence and carrying the official logo of the 80th anniversary of the Normandy landings. The wheels turn on rubber tires, a new brick was designed for the Dodge radiator grille, and two figures are included โ€” an American general based on a real officer, and his driver.

WC stands for Weapon Carrier

Dodge built a family of three-quarter-ton trucks during the war and gave them all WC numbers, the letters standing for Weapon Carrier from the earliest models in the series. By the time the range had grown to include ambulances, radio trucks, command cars and workshops, the name had stopped describing anything and become a catalogue prefix.

The WC-56 is the command car: an open body with a low cut-down side and no doors at all. That is deliberate. An officer using the vehicle as a mobile headquarters gets in and out repeatedly, often in a hurry, and a door is an obstacle. The same thinking gave it a folding windscreen and a canvas top rather than anything solid.

General Patton used one, which is why the type appears in a great many photographs.
