COBI Concorde G-BBDG Set 1689

COBI's Concorde G-BBDG is a 1:100 model built from 518 blocks, over 61 cm long, produced under licence from the Brooklands Museum, where the real aircraft stands today.

The wheels roll, the livery is printed onto the blocks rather than applied as stickers, and the printing extends to the heat discolouration around the engine nozzles — the stain that supersonic flight left on the metal.

G-BBDG was the second British production Concorde and never carried a fare-paying passenger. She first flew on 13 February 1974 and spent her working life on the certification programme: the flights that had to prove Mach 2 was safe before anyone could sell a ticket for it.

When that work ended in 1981 she was parked at Filton and became something less dignified and more useful. For the next twenty years engineers took parts off her whenever a Concorde in service needed one. The aircraft that never flew commercially kept the ones that did in the air, piece by piece, until she was largely a shell.

In 2004 she was cut into sections, moved by road to Brooklands in Surrey — one of the British works where Concorde airframe sections had been built — and put back together. She is the only Concorde you can board that never flew a scheduled service.

COBI also made this aircraft as set 1917, a smaller and simpler model at a lower price. Set 1689 is the larger 1:100 version with the Brooklands licence and the printed nozzle detail.
