COBI Citroen Traction Avant 11CV 1938 - Executive Edition Set 24336 (Damaged Box)
COBI's Citroën Traction Avant 11CV Executive Edition is a 1:12 model built from 2,120 blocks, 37 cm long, produced under Citroën license. The steering wheel turns the front wheels, the doors open on hinges, the hood tilts to show a brick-built engine, the trunk opens, and the interior is modeled throughout. A black display stand and a nameplate are included.
Condition
This set is sold at a reduced price because the outer box is damaged — it may have holes, creases or crushed corners. The contents are brand new, sealed and complete. If you are building the model rather than collecting sealed boxes, the only difference is the price.
The car that cost André Citroën his company
The Traction Avant of 1934 combined front-wheel drive, a monocoque body with no separate chassis, and independent torsion-bar suspension. Today all three are standard; in 1934 no mass-produced car had them together.
To build it, André Citroën rebuilt his Quai de Javel factory and rushed the car into production before development was finished. Early cars suffered gearbox and suspension failures, and the company could no longer pay its suppliers. Michelin, its largest creditor, took control in December 1934. André Citroën died seven months later, having lost the firm that carried his name. The car stayed in production until 1957.
In the COBI range
Set 24337 is the same car in the standard edition without the display stand. The smaller 1:35 Tractions are sets 2263, 2265, 2266 and 2267.
