COBI Boeing B-29 Superfortress Set 5774

COBI's B-29 Superfortress is a 1:72 model built from 1,074 blocks, 43.5 cm long with a wingspan of 60 cm. It comes with a black display stand, transparent supports that let the model be posed as if in flight, and a plaque carrying the aircraft's name, the scale and an American flag.

All four propellers turn, the bomb bay doors open onto a load of AN-M65 bombs, the gun positions move, and the wheels come off for display. The markings are printed onto the blocks rather than applied as stickers.

"Monsoon Goon"

The model is one specific aircraft, of the 794th Bombardment Squadron, 468th Bombardment Group, 20th Air Force. She is unusual to look at because she wore Olive Drab over Neutral Grey — most Superfortresses flew in bare metal, and the olive-green scheme was applied to only a handful. She was sent to India in 1944 and flew long-range missions over Asia from bases in the China-Burma-India theater, returned to the United States late that year, ended her service at Pyote Army Airfield in Texas and was scrapped in 1949.

The B-29 itself was the most technically advanced bomber of the war, with pressurized crew compartments and remotely controlled gun turrets aimed through a central fire-control system — a generation ahead of the B-17 that preceded it.
