COBI Bell 407 Coast Guard Set 26627
COBI's Bell 407 Coast Guard is a 1:48 model built from 210 blocks, 22.5 cm long, in coast guard markings. A new cockpit part was designed specifically for this set. All markings are printed; the set contains no stickers.
The person who goes down on the wire
A rescue helicopter over water cannot land. What it does instead is hover while a hoist lowers someone into the sea — and that person is the reason the whole aircraft is there.
The crew is four: two pilots, a hoist operator in the doorway who talks the aircraft into position because the pilots cannot see directly below them, and a rescue swimmer who goes into the water. The swimmer reaches the casualty, assesses them, fits a strop or a litter, and comes up last. Helicopter hoist rescue is one of the few jobs where the safest position is the one nobody takes.
The Bell 407 is used for the inshore end of that work — coastal patrol, harbour surveillance, medical evacuation from islands and boats — where a smaller, cheaper, more agile machine does more flying hours than a large offshore helicopter ever could.
