COBI Audi RS4 Cycling Madness Set 24671

COBI's Audi RS4 „Cycling Madness“ is a 1:35 model of the B9 RS4 Avant built from 155 blocks, produced under an official license from Audi and set up as a cycling team car, with bicycles to carry. The wheels turn on rubber tires and the markings are printed onto the blocks rather than applied as stickers.

Why a fast estate car exists at all

A wagon with a racing engine is not an obvious product. The reason this one exists traces back to 1994 and a car Audi did not build on its own.

The RS2 Avant was developed together with Porsche and assembled at Porsche's Rossle-Bau works in Zuffenhausen, the same halls that had turned out the 959. Porsche reworked Audi's five-cylinder turbo to 315 hp and handed over parts from its own shelves — the brakes, the wheels and the door mirrors came from the 911 of the day, and the name PORSCHE was cast into the lower sill trim. Fewer than 3,000 were made.

It established a category that had not really existed: a family car with supercar hardware. Every RS Avant since, the B9 included, is a descendant of that one collaboration — which is also why a car like this ends up carrying bicycles instead of luggage.
