COBI's Citroën 2CV Type A is a 1:35 model built from 80 blocks, 11 cm long, with four movable wheels and a plate carrying the model name and the period Citroën logo. Parts were made specifically for this body shape, including new headlamps.

The windscreen wiper ran off the speedometer

The Type A was the 2CV as it launched in 1949, and it was stripped back further than anything sold today would be allowed to be. The engine was a 375 cc twin producing nine horsepower. There was one tail light. The fuel gauge was a dipstick.

The wiper is the detail that says the most. It was mechanical, driven off the same cable that ran the speedometer — so it swept faster the faster you drove, and when you stopped at a junction in the rain it stopped too. There was a knob to work it by hand.

None of this was carelessness. Pierre Boulanger's brief had been a car cheap enough for farmers who currently used a horse, and every part that could be left out was left out. Nearly four million were built over forty-one years.
