Two Ls

The character has a running joke about his own name, and it comes from a genuine production decision.

In the 1994 film the leader of the first Stargate mission is Colonel Jack O'Neil, played by Kurt Russell — a grim, bereaved man on what he intends to be a one-way trip. When the television series took over three years later with Richard Dean Anderson in the role, the character was rebuilt almost from scratch: wry, insubordinate, and funny.

The spelling was changed to O'Neill with two Ls, and the series turned it into a character trait. He corrects people. He introduces himself as "O'Neill, with two Ls" — and on at least one occasion explains that there is another Jack O'Neil with one L, and that he has no sense of humour at all.

It is a small joke about a continuity decision, and it says more about how the series differed from the film than any amount of explanation would.

A face made of bricks

196 pieces for a 13-centimetre figure is a lot, and almost all of it goes into the head. A human face has no flat planes and no right angles, which is the opposite of what a brick wants to do — so the model is built from small elements at shallow angles, and the likeness only resolves from a metre away.
