BlueBrixx's Star Trek Borg Drone Bust is an officially licensed model built from 1,615 blocks, reproducing the head and shoulders of a Borg drone from Star Trek: The Next Generation. Recommended for experienced builders because of the construction techniques involved.

Why a bust rather than a figure

A full-body figure at this piece count would be about 30 centimetres tall and mostly smooth surfaces — legs, torso, arms. There would be nothing to look at.

A bust spends every one of its 1,615 pieces on the part anyone actually wants to see. At this scale a face has room for structure: the ocular implant, the tubing at the temple, the asymmetry that makes a Borg a Borg.

That asymmetry is the reason the format works so well here. When the Borg were designed for The Next Generation in 1989 the guiding idea was that the implants should look added rather than integrated — grafted onto a person who had been something else first, with no attempt made at symmetry or finish. A brick model is very good at exactly that, because bricks want to be regular and the subject does not.

The licence

This is an official Star Trek product. BlueBrixx holds the licence, which is why the design is a specific drone rather than a generic cyborg, and it is a category with very little competition — brick-built Star Trek has mostly existed as fan designs.

Building it

The complexity is not in the piece count but in the techniques. Curved organic shapes in bricks mean angled connections, half-stud offsets and parts held at unusual orientations — which is why BlueBrixx flags it for experienced builders rather than for a specific age.
