BlueBrixx Snoopy Taking a Bath Set 107356
BlueBrixx's Snoopy Taking a Bath is an officially licensed Peanuts diorama built from 101 blocks, with a bathtub, bathroom fittings and a printed cardboard backdrop that completes the scene.
Snoopy became a person by degrees
A beagle in a bathtub only works because of something that happened slowly over twenty years and that most readers never noticed.
When Snoopy first appeared in 1950 he was a dog. He walked on four legs, thought in simple dog thoughts, and behaved roughly as a dog behaves. Charles Schulz then changed him a little at a time: standing upright occasionally in the late 1950s, sleeping on the roof of the kennel rather than inside it, developing an inner monologue, and eventually acquiring a typewriter, a law degree, a brother in Needles and a war against the Red Baron.
Nobody in the strip ever remarks on it. The children treat him as a dog throughout, and that is the joke: Snoopy has an enormous interior life that nobody around him can see.
By the 1970s he was the most famous character in the strip and arguably its protagonist. A scene of him in the bath belongs to that later Snoopy — not a dog being washed, but someone having a soak.
The backdrop does the work
101 pieces is very few for a scene. The printed card behind it means every brick can go into Snoopy and the tub rather than into walls and floor, which is why the result reads as a room.
