BlueBrixx American Beach - Beach Section 2 Set 103300
BlueBrixx's American Beach β Beach Section 2 is a BlueBrixx-Specials model built from 699 blocks, measuring 51 Γ 13 Γ 25.5 cm assembled, weighing around 630 g. Designed by Alex. No stickers or prints.
A section, not a scene
The word to notice in the name is Section. This is one length of a coastline, built to sit beside others.
BlueBrixx's American Beach range works the way a model railway does: each set is a segment of a consistent width that butts up against the next. Beach Section 1 continues the sand; the Motel, the Diner and the Cinema stand behind it. Bought together they become a stretch of coast road; bought alone, each is a complete object that happens to have flat edges.
That is a better arrangement than one enormous box, because a fifty-centimetre section is a weekend rather than a month, and the display grows at whatever pace the shelf and the budget allow.
Why the American beach is a subject at all
The motel, the diner and the neon sign along a coast road are not generic Americana β they are a specific thing that happened in a specific twenty years.
Before the 1950s a long journey meant a train and a hotel in a town centre. The interstate programme and cheap cars turned travel into driving, and an entire architecture appeared to serve people arriving by car: buildings set back behind parking, signs designed to be read at 60 miles an hour, and rooms you could walk into directly from your vehicle.
Then the interstates were rerouted around the towns they had created, and most of it emptied out within a decade. What survives is preserved deliberately, which is why it reads as nostalgia rather than as ordinary building.
In the BlueBrixx range
The American Beach series includes Beach Section 1, the Motel, the Diner and the Cinema, all designed to connect with this section.
