2009/10 Upper Deck Series 2 Hockey Hobby Box | 24 Packs | Factory Sealed

Series 1 that season carried the famous names of the 2009 draft. Series 2 carried the players who were called up later, and it has aged better for it. Brad Marchand's Young Guns rookie card is in this box, along with Logan Couture, Michael Grabner, James Reimer, Tyler Ennis, Tyler Bozak, Cody Franson and Matt Carle. Marchand went 71st overall in 2006, in the third round, on nobody's list of prospects; he won the Stanley Cup in 2011 and later captained Boston.

There is a reason to look at this box alongside the 2010/11 Series 1. The three finalists for the 2011 Calder Trophy were Jeff Skinner, Logan Couture and Michael Grabner. Couture and Grabner have their Young Guns here; Skinner has his in Series 1 of the following season.

Each hobby box holds 24 packs of 8 cards. The base set runs to 200 regular cards plus the Young Guns rookie subset.

The die-cut acetate cards — Rookie Breakouts to 100 and Draft Class to 10 — average one per case. Regular set parallels run as Exclusives numbered to 100 and High Glossy to 10, and Victory Update adds Gold at 1:24 and Black at 1:288. The Superstar inserts are Draft Day Gems and Playoff Performers at 1:12, Rookie Debuts and Captain's Calling at 1:24.

The release date explains one of those inserts: the box shipped on 16 February 2010, four days into the Vancouver Winter Olympics, which is what The Champions set was built around.
