Upper Deck
2009/10 Upper Deck MVP Hockey Retail Box | 24 Packs | Factory Sealed
Same set, same box size, same card count as the MVP hobby box: 24 packs of 8 cards. What differs is the odds, and that is worth spelling out.
MVP Rookies fall in every second pack here just as they do in hobby, so the 2009 draft class comes out either way — John Tavares, Matt Duchene, Victor Hedman, Erik Karlsson, Tyler Myers, Antti Niemi, Tyler Bozak, James van Riemsdyk and Jonas Gustavsson. The MVP inserts, built around Hart Trophy winners and candidates, run at 1:5 packs for the candidates and 1:40 for the winners: roughly five candidates per box and a winner in about every second box.
The material is where retail and hobby part ways. The 2-on-2 jersey card, which carries swatches from four NHL players, falls 1:48 packs in this configuration, so about one box in two. The One-on-One autograph — signed on both faces, a different player on each side — falls 1:720, one box in thirty. The hobby version of this release guarantees a game-used memorabilia card in every box; retail carries no such guarantee.
The hobby box and the ten-pack blaster of the same release are listed separately in this shop. Same cards, three sets of odds.
The set came out in December 2009. Factory sealed and never opened.
