Small vehicles really do tow guns

A quad with an artillery piece behind it looks like something invented for a toy. It is a real arrangement, and it exists for the same reason it always has.

A gun has to reach a position, and positions are frequently somewhere a truck cannot go — a hillside, a wood, soft ground, the far end of a track. Armies have therefore always paired the smallest vehicle that will pull the gun with the gun itself: horses, then jeeps, then quads.

Modern light forces use ATVs exactly this way, towing mortars, light guns and ammunition trailers, because a quad crosses ground that stops everything larger and can be manhandled the last few metres by its crew.

The historical version is set 24181, a Willys jeep with a 37 mm anti-tank gun — the same idea, eighty years earlier.

Which range this is

Small Army is COBI's older and simpler line: no modelling scale, no specific vehicle behind the design, built for play rather than display. At 100 pieces this is around twenty minutes of building.
