In most collectible card games, the story comes from the publisher and the players simply play in it. Legend of the Five Rings worked the other way round.
Players who wrote the setting
The game is set in Rokugan, an empire of rival samurai clans. What made it unlike anything else of its era was that the story was not fixed in advance. The results of tournaments decided what happened next: which clan won a war, who took the throne, who died. The publisher, Alderac Entertainment Group, then printed those outcomes onto the cards of the following sets.
Players were not only competing. They were deciding the history of the world they were playing in, and the cards are a record of those decisions.
The Heaven's Will
The Heaven's Will is the eighth expansion of the Race for the Throne arc. The throne stands empty, the Celestial Tournament will decide who claims it, and the Army of Fire of the Dark Oracle Chosai marches against all the clans at once.
Our sealed product is the starter deck box: 6 decks of 84 cards each, built for the Dragon, Lion and Mantis clans. In L5R a starter is a playable deck around a single clan, with a Stronghold for that faction and fixed cards — the way into the game, or into a new clan.
The box has never been opened.
