Doctor Who Series 1–4 and 5–7: A Collector's Guide

Rittenhouse Doctor Who Series 1-4 sealed box

Rittenhouse has covered the modern Doctor Who in order: first the Ninth and Tenth Doctors, then the Eleventh. This is what each of the two sets contains, who signs, and how they differ.

Series 1–4: Eccleston and Tennant

A box holds 24 packs of 5 cards with 4 on-card autographs, one of them an inscription. The set is limited to 5,000 boxes.

The base set is 156 cards: three for each of the thirteen episodes in each of the first four series. Around it sit Gold TARDIS foil parallels numbered to 99 and Red TARDIS parallels numbered to 50, 48 Holiday Specials cards, companion puzzle sets for Rose Tyler, Martha Jones and Donna Noble, Doctor puzzle sets for Christopher Eccleston and David Tennant, Allies and Adversaries of the Doctor, and hand-drawn sketch cards. The case toppers are two “My Doctor” metal cards, one for each Doctor.

The signers include Christopher Eccleston, David Tennant, Billie Piper, Camille Coduri, Shaun Dingwall, Jacqueline King, Sarah Parish and Andrew Garfield, who appeared in 2007 as Frank in the Daleks-in-Manhattan two-parter. For Eccleston, who stayed away from conventions and signings for many years after leaving the role, the set carries his first on-card autographs.

Series 5–7: the Eleventh Doctor

A box holds 24 packs of 5 cards with 4 on-card autographs, at least one of them an inscription, and 14 insert cards.

The base set is 117 cards, three per episode across Series 5, 6 and 7. The inserts include 30 Holiday Specials cards, companion puzzle sets for Amy Pond, Rory Williams, Clara Oswald and River Song, puzzle sets for the Eleventh Doctor and the War Doctor, Allies and Adversaries, and sketch cards.

The signers include Matt Smith, David Tennant, Christopher Eccleston, Paul McGann, Karen Gillan, Arthur Darvill, Alex Kingston, Jenna Coleman, Catherine Tate, Freema Agyeman and Georgia Tennant.

The case incentives are generous: at six cases, a dual autograph of David Tennant and Catherine Tate; at nine, a triple autograph of Matt Smith, Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill; at twelve, exclusive autographs and further bonuses.

Choosing between them

Both sets give four on-card autographs per box. Series 1–4 is the larger base set and the limited print run of 5,000 boxes; Series 5–7 has the broader signer list, reaching back to Paul McGann's Eighth Doctor, and the multi-case incentives.

All pull rates are averages across the full print run. No individual box or case is guaranteed to contain any particular insert, sketch or signer beyond the configuration described above.
