COBI Fire Patrol Unit Set 1444
COBI's Fire Patrol Unit is built from 66 blocks, 15 cm long: a fire service quad bike with a detachable trailer, moving wheels on rubber tires and headlights that glow in the dark. A firefighter figure with a lowered visor is included, plus a mat and a ladder. Part of the Action Town range.
Fire brigades really do use quads
The vehicle in this set is not invented. Fire and rescue services across Europe, Australia and the western United States operate quad bikes with trailers, and the reason is wildfire.
A fire in forest, moorland or scrub does not start near a road, and an engine weighing fifteen tonnes cannot follow it. A quad with a small water or foam unit on a trailer can reach the fire front along a footpath, carry a crew member and their equipment, and get out again quickly if the wind changes โ which is the part that matters most.
They are also used where a fire engine would simply be in the way: festival sites, beaches, campsites, pedestrian areas and large events.
The trailer detaches on this model, which is accurate โ in service the quad is used on its own for reconnaissance and with the trailer for firefighting.
In the COBI range
Part of Action Town. Set 1477 is the Engine 13 fire station with a sliding pole, and 26629 the Bell 429 air ambulance.
