COBI's Equestrian Competition is built from 320 blocks: a car with a horse trailer, a jumping course with crossbars and sandbags, and a winner's podium. Two figures are included, a rider and a horse, with three cups, two riding crops and a horse cloth. Part of the Action Town range.

How show jumping is actually scored

The course in this set has crossbars to be jumped, and the sport built around them is decided by mistakes rather than by style.

A rider starts with a clean sheet. Knocking a pole down costs four faults. A refusal costs four. A fall ends the round. Going over the time allowed costs one fault for every few seconds.

A round with no faults is a clear round, and if several riders go clear they jump again over a shortened course against the clock — the jump-off, which is where the speed comes from. Nobody is scored on how it looked.

The reason it works that way is that the rules were written for an objective test of whether horse and rider could get over an obstacle course. Judging elegance is a different sport, called dressage, with a different set of rules and a great deal more argument.

Part of Action Town. Set 1875 is the countryside farm, which includes a horse and a rider and works with this course, and 1740 the veterinary clinic.
