COBI Volkswagen T2b Camper Set 24686

COBI's Volkswagen T2b Camper is a 1:35 model of the late Bay Window Transporter as a camper, built from 207 blocks under an official Volkswagen license, with one figure.

The same engine as a Porsche

For the 1972 model year Volkswagen gave the T2 a larger engine bay and a redesigned rear end, and the reason was the engine that had to fit in it. Alongside the Beetle-derived 1.6, the Transporter now offered the bigger air-cooled flat-four from the Volkswagen 411, known as the Type 4 engine, in 1.7, 1.8 and later 2.0 liter versions.

The same engine family powered the four-cylinder VW-Porsche 914, the mid-engined sports car that Volkswagen and Porsche developed together. A camper van and a Porsche shared the design of the engine behind their seats — tuned in the van for pulling a heavy load rather than for revving.

Set 24616 is the earlier T2a Camper with a picnic scene, and set 24621 is the T2b as a passenger bus. The T3 Camper Van (24638) is the generation that followed.
