COBI Nieuport 17 C.1 Guynemer Set 2997 (Damaged Box)

COBI's Nieuport 17 C.1 in Georges Guynemer's markings is a 1:32 model built from 277 blocks, 19 cm long with a 25.5 cm wingspan, with a Guynemer figure and two interchangeable headpieces.

Condition

This set is sold at a reduced price because the outer box is damaged — it may have holes, creases or crushed corners. The contents are brand new, sealed and complete. If you are building the model rather than collecting sealed boxes, the only difference is the price.

Look at the lower wing

It is much smaller than the upper one — a sesquiplane, meaning one and a half wings. The narrow lower wing needed only a single spar, which gave less drag than a full biplane and a clear view downward. It also twisted under load, and in a steep dive it could flutter and in some cases fail. Pilots flew it anyway for the climb rate and the handling.

Guynemer

Rejected five times as physically unfit, he got in as a mechanic and talked his way into flying. He finished with 53 confirmed victories and disappeared over Belgium on 11 September 1917. No wreck and no body were ever found.
