COBI's Flying Bulls Vought F4U Corsair is a 1:48 model of the Corsair flown by the Flying Bulls, Red Bull's collection of historic aircraft in Salzburg, built from 236 blocks under license from Red Bull and Northrop Grumman.
A veteran of the Football War
The real aircraft was built in 1945 as an F4U-4 for the U.S. Navy and delivered too late to see action in the Second World War. Its war came much later and far from the Pacific. In 1960 it was delivered to Honduras and joined the Honduran Air Force as FAH 614.
In July 1969 Honduras and El Salvador fought a short war that began amid riots around World Cup qualifying matches between the two countries and is remembered as the Football War. Both air forces flew Corsairs and Mustangs, and FAH 614 was sent into action. The air battles of those days were the last in which piston-engined fighters fought each other anywhere in the world.
In the COBI range
Set 26634 is the same Flying Bulls Corsair at the larger 1:32 scale, and set 26631 is the Flying Bulls Mustang at 1:48. The F4U-1 Corsair (5773) shows the wartime version at 1:32.
