COBI's North American B-25 Mitchell “Tokyo Raid” is a 1:48 model of the medium bomber in the markings of the 1942 raid on Japan, built from 729 blocks, with one figure.

Sixteen bombers that could not come back

On 18 April 1942, four months after Pearl Harbor, sixteen Army B-25B bombers took off from the deck of the aircraft carrier USS Hornet in the Pacific, led by Lieutenant Colonel James Doolittle. No bomber of that size had been launched from a carrier on a combat mission before, and none could land on one: the plan was to bomb targets in Japan and fly on to airfields in China.

The plan failed at the start. The task force was spotted by a Japanese picket boat, and the bombers took off hours early and much farther from Japan than intended. They reached their targets, but none reached the planned airfields. Fifteen crews bailed out or crash-landed in China and one landed in the Soviet Union; all sixteen aircraft were lost. The damage in Japan was small. The effect on both sides was not.
