BlueBrixx's Stargate Gate Room SG-1 is an officially licensed BlueBrixx-Pro model built from 2,430 blocks, measuring 43.3 Γ— 27.8 Γ— 21.7 cm assembled. Designed by Niklas. Four minifigures are included, printed front, back and arms, along with weapons, chevron pieces, two versions of the gate for its active and inactive states, a MALP probe and a UAV.

Twenty-eight levels under a mountain

The room this model reproduces is the bottom of a hole. In the series the Stargate Command sits inside Cheyenne Mountain in Colorado, on level 28 of a facility built into solid granite β€” and that setting is doing real narrative work.

A gate that can be dialled from anywhere in the galaxy is, viewed coldly, a permanent hole in your planet's defences. Anything can come through it, and the first thing the programme does in the pilot is discover that. So the gate is buried under a mountain with a blast door called the iris a few centimetres in front of it, and that iris is the entire security architecture: anything arriving without the right code hits it.

Everything about the room follows from that. The ramp, the observation window above, the armed soldiers permanently facing the gate, the alarm when an unscheduled activation happens β€” it is a room designed around never quite trusting the thing at the end of it.

Two gates in one box

The set contains both states β€” the inactive ring and the active one with the event horizon. That is unusual and it is the right choice: the two look entirely different, and a display that can be switched between them shows what the object actually does rather than what it looks like when switched off.

In the BlueBrixx range

Set 108211 is the Stargate on Planet diorama β€” the other end of the same journey, with five SG-1 figures. Set 106847 is the Goa'uld Al'kesh. BlueBrixx holds the official Stargate licence, which is rare: the franchise has had very little merchandise of any kind.
