COBI MiG-29 NATO Code FULCRUM Set 5834

COBI's MiG-29 NATO Code Fulcrum is a 1:48 model built from 600 blocks, 34 cm long, made in cooperation with the Polish Army Museum and reproducing the markings of the aircraft on display in Warsaw. The wheels and ailerons move and the cockpit opens for a simplified pilot figure. A display stand with a nameplate and the Polish chequerboard is included. All markings are printed; no stickers.

This aircraft was German first

The museum exhibit COBI copied has a specific history, and it is a good one.

It was built in 1988 as a MiG-29A for the air force of East Germany. Two years later that country ceased to exist and the aircraft, along with twenty-three others, passed to the Luftwaffe — which flew them, evaluated them against NATO fighters, and got a considerable shock at what the helmet-mounted sight could do.

In 2003 Germany sold twenty-two of them to Poland. The price was one euro each.

This particular airframe arrived in Polish service in 2005, flew with the 41st Tactical Air Squadron at Malbork, and was handed to the Polish Army Museum. Its designation, MiG-29G, is the German modification standard — the G stands for Germany, on a Soviet aircraft in a Polish museum.

Three air forces and three countries, two of which no longer exist in the form that bought it.
