COBI Sturmpanzerwagen A7V Set 3094

COBI's Sturmpanzerwagen A7V is a 1:72 model built from 119 blocks, 11.5 cm long, with movable side machine guns and wheels hidden underneath so it rolls. First World War markings, grilles and hatch details are printed onto the blocks.

The first tank battle in history

On 24 April 1918 at Villers-Bretonneux, three A7Vs met three British Mark IVs. Nothing like it had ever happened, because tanks had only existed for eighteen months and nobody had written a doctrine for fighting one.

Two of the British tanks were female — machine guns only — and could do nothing at all against armour; they withdrew damaged. The third was a male with 6-pounders, commanded by Lieutenant Frank Mitchell. It hit the leading A7V three times and knocked it over onto its side. The remaining two German tanks pulled back.

Germany built around 20 A7Vs in total, against several thousand British and French machines. The vehicle needed a crew of eighteen, ran hot enough inside to make men collapse, and was so tall and short-tracked that it grounded on trenches it was built to cross.
