The KV-1 had proved almost immune to Finnish guns, but its 76 mm gun could not break the concrete bunkers of the Mannerheim Line, so a 152 mm howitzer was put into a new, enormous turret on the same chassis. The war itself went so badly for the Red Army that Voroshilov was removed as Commissar for Defence in May 1940.
